Thoughts on the Current Economic Crisis

Friends,

In light of the current economic situation and the discussion taking place in Parliament, I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that I am, as always, committed to work for my constituents across party lines to ensure that the best possible solutions are implemented for them and our nation. In this time of economic uncertainty, we must ensure that the well-being of our citizens is at the forefront of our decision making. I will continue to work hard to bring people together to make this happen.

I would like to share with you my thoughts on this matter as well as my plan for a way forward at this time. Please take the time to read an op-ed I have written as well as two National Post articles from December 3rd and December 4th in which my quotes clearly articulate my thoughts on the current economic and political situation. You may also want to see a summary of a CFAX-1070 interview from December 5th. The audio clip for this is coming soon.

I hope that the government will reach out to collaborate with the opposition parties, however we will act and work in a coalition with all opposition parties to address the economic challenges before us if Mr. Harper and his government fail to work with us to address this crisis. Of note that the coalition we have put together is between the Liberal Party and the New Democratic Party. The Bloc is not part of the coalition. They have only said that they would support the coalition on a throne speech and two budgets. Otherwise they will vote as they please. They would not have any cabinet posts.

In closing, I wish to emphasize that this coalition only exists due to Mr. Harper`s failure to address the most significant economic crisis we have endured since the Great Depression and that the onus is on him to start collaborating with the opposition parties, who have been working hard to achieve consensus in the best interest of our nation. I have in fact spoken directly with senior members of the Conservative Party to try and convince them to work with us to address the challenges facing our country.

I encourage you to write to the Governor General to state your position on the coalition. You may also want to consult the site www.makeparliamentwork.ca where you will find up to date developments and detailed info on upcoming events.

Best wishes,

Keith
