Government gives wage cuts to RCMP for Christmas
Our RCMP officers received quite a Christmas present from the Federal government in December.
While everyone was preoccupied with the holidays, just before Christmas, the Treasury Board suddenly decided to roll back a wage agreement that had been negotiated in good faith with the RCMP. This wage increase would have simply enabled the RCMP to have wage parity with other police forces across the country.
Reneging on this agreement is an affront to the hard working officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens. It is a terrible blow to the Force and has long term, negative consequences that I am certain have been lost on the bean counters at the Treasury Board. This includes an acceleration of the loss of officers from the RCMP to provincial and municipal police forces. This will exacerbate the huge manpower deficit that is currently compromising the Force’s ability to fulfill its crucial public safety duties.
The government knows the RCMP officers cannot unionize and are forbidden to strike, and that there has been a quiet understanding that the federal government would treat our national police force in a fair and reasonable fashion. However, this unwritten code of conduct has been violated with the rollback of this wage agreement.
In the interests of our RCMP, which is one of the finest police forces in the world, and for the security of our citizens, the government should honour the wage agreement and stop this rollback. This is simply the right thing to do.

wish you all the best for the new year
I don’t agree with this reneging
this brings up some further thoughts for me
the free trade agreement worked well for us because of our weak dollar
the movie business and automabile industry have done well because of this
however, we also lost our ontario industrial base at the same time
certain segments of society never took the hit in wages that the workers did at this time
our commodity base currency is a big problem as is our dependence on the american economy
it is time for us to make things work for us in canada
globalization has a place but it is time for us to pull back and take control and responsibility for ourselves
