Saving a Pillar of our Democracy

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

At the beating heart of any democracy is a free and open press. Many news outlets are on the verge of financial collapse due to a number of factors. These threats are not new, but they have come together to form a perfect storm and the crisis we have today.

An Open Letter to President Barack Obama

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

“Yes we can” change our mission in Afghanistan

Dear President Obama,

Long after you have left the White House the world will remember the famous words you used to bring a nation to its feet, and to signal the beginning of a new era for the American people: “yes we can.” It is with this same spirit of fortitude and courage that I suggest to you that, “yes we can” change our mission in Afghanistan, to finally forge, as you noted in your inaugural address, a hard earned peace in this tortured country. Thoughts on the Current Economic Crisis

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Friends,

In light of the current economic situation and the discussion taking place in Parliament, I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that I am, as always, committed to work for my constituents across party lines to ensure that the best possible solutions are implemented for them and our nation. In this time of economic uncertainty, we must ensure that the well-being of our citizens is at the forefront of our decision making. I will continue to work hard to bring people together to make this happen.

I would like to share with you my thoughts on this matter as well as my plan for a way forward at this time. Please take the time to read an op-ed I have written as well as two National Post articles from December 3rd and December 4th in which my quotes clearly articulate my thoughts on the current economic and political situation. You may also want to see a summary of a CFAX-1070 interview from December 5th. The audio clip for this is coming soon.

Quotes from the Globe and Mail

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

“Keith Martin is a brave man…it is encouraging to see at least one of this country’s elected representatives stand up for a key tenet of democracy.” – Globe and Mail Editorial – February 6, 2008

—–

“Mr. Martin has presented a motion calling for the repeal of the most noxious provisions of the Canadian Human Rights Act. Mr. Martin still knows what a real Parliament is about.” – Rex Murphy, Globe and Mail, May 03 2008

Democracy in action

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Church of the Advent in Colwood for the first major All-Candidates forum of this election. There were many great questions on the pressing issues facing our community and our country.

I would also like to thank Dr. Dennis Pilon for his skilled moderating, and Rev. Gray and the Church of the Advent for hosting this event.

- Keith

Parliament’s dysfunctional world

Parliament’s dysfunctional world
Dr. Keith Martin
The National Post
May 13, 2008

It’s official — recent polls show that the public’s faith in politicians has hit rock bottom. A scant 25% of Canadians expressed respect for those who enter elected office. The next lowest were lawyers, who hit a whopping 44%. This is a sad, but not surprising state of affairs. (more…)
