“Yes we can” change our mission in Afghanistan
Dear President Obama,
Long after you have left the White House the world will remember the famous words you used to bring a nation to its feet, and to signal the beginning of a new era for the American people: “yes we can.” It is with this same spirit of fortitude and courage that I suggest to you that, “yes we can” change our mission in Afghanistan, to finally forge, as you noted in your inaugural address, a hard earned peace in this tortured country. MP Martin blasts the government for tearing up the RCMP’s wage agreement
OTTAWA – Today, MP Dr. Keith Martin blasted the government during Question Period for tearing up a wage agreement Prime Minister Harper announced; one that would simply have given the RCMP wage parity with other police forces across the country.

Our RCMP officers received quite a Christmas present from the Federal government in December.
While everyone was preoccupied with the holidays, just before Christmas, the Treasury Board suddenly decided to roll back a wage agreement that had been negotiated in good faith with the RCMP. (more…)

This week we saw great leadership in the Liberal Party. Both Bob Rae and Dominic Leblanc stepped aside, recognizing that they would never have the numbers to become the leader of the party. Prior to that, Stéphane Dion, who had tried so hard under difficult circumstances, stepped down in order to ensure that the will of the consensus of the members was listened to in an expedited fashion during this time when our country is in economic turmoil.
Michael Ignatieff is the individual that I supported during his last leadership bid, as well as in this one, and I am very pleased that he is now the leader of our party. He will provide tough, pragmatic leadership that blends good economic policies with good social policies. The caucus is united around the new leader and we look forward to giving our best for our country and our citizens.

Friends,
In light of the current economic situation and the discussion taking place in Parliament, I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that I am, as always, committed to work for my constituents across party lines to ensure that the best possible solutions are implemented for them and our nation. In this time of economic uncertainty, we must ensure that the well-being of our citizens is at the forefront of our decision making. I will continue to work hard to bring people together to make this happen.
I would like to share with you my thoughts on this matter as well as my plan for a way forward at this time. Please take the time to read an op-ed I have written as well as two National Post articles from December 3rd and December 4th in which my quotes clearly articulate my thoughts on the current economic and political situation. You may also want to see a summary of a CFAX-1070 interview from December 5th. The audio clip for this is coming soon.

Friends, please see this press release I put out today. This crisis is reaching terrible proportions and the widespread use of rape as a weapon of war is just unconscionable. I urge you to act on this important issue by getting the word out in the media and raising awareness to promote action. Below you will also see a statement I made in The House of Commons earlier in the week.
